Apply LUTs

LUT (or the "lookup table") offers a means of changing the look of images by altering the color values of pixels that make up those images. On the surface, though, LUTs work just like any filter-like color adjustments, only LUTs are universal, meaning, they can be used across different editing programs and different mediums including cinema and photography. In a way, LUTs are similar to the color adjustment presets in Photomator. Both are sets of color, shadow, and contrast adjustments that combined give an image a particular look and feel. LUTs can also be used together with built-in Photomator adjustments.

Apply a LUT to an image

Photomator comes with 5 LUT categories, including Cinematic, Color Blindness, Duotone, Grayscale Conversion, and Photo Filter LUTs. To apply any of the default LUTs to a photo, do the following:

1. Click or tap Color Adjustments in the toolbar and turn on LUT.
2. Click or tap the LUT pop-up menu, choose a collection, then select a LUT you want to apply.

3. (Optional) Adjust the intensity of the LUT by dragging the Intensity slider.

In the Photos browser on Mac, you can also apply LUTs to photos directly by dragging and dropping the LUT onto the desired photo thumbnail in the photo grid view. The LUT will be automatically added to your LUT collections for future use.

Import a custom LUT

iPhone and iPad

If you have a custom LUT or a LUTs collection you want to use in Photomator, you can import it. Photomator supports LUTs in the .cube file format. Once you import it, the custom LUT will be saved to the Photomator LUTs library and will always be available from the LUT pop-up menu.

1. Tap More next to the LUT collections pop-up menu and tap Choose LUT or Choose LUTs From Folder, if you'd like to add a collection of LUTs.
2. Browse the locations on your device and choose the LUTs you want to import.

Photomator supports LUTs in the .cube file format.

Mac

If you have a custom LUT or a LUTs collection you want to use in Photomator, you can import it. Photomator supports LUTs in the .cube file format. Once you import it, the custom LUT will be saved to the Photomator LUTs library and will always be available from the LUT pop-up menu.

To import a custom LUT or a LUT collection to Photomator on Mac, do any of the following:

• Import a LUT or LUT folder: Tap More next to the LUT collections pop-up menu and tap Choose LUT, then browse the locations on your device and choose the LUT or LUT folder you want to import.
• Import LUTs as color adjustment presets: Drag and drop a LUT or a LUT folder from anywhere on your Mac to the Photomator presets bar.

• Import and apply LUTs: You can apply LUTs to photos directly in the Photos browser. Simply drag and drop it onto the desired photo thumbnail in the photo grid view. The applied LUT will be automatically added to the list of available LUTs in the LUT collections pop-up menu.

Photomator supports LUTs in the .cube file format.

Convert LUT into color adjustments

When you apply a LUT, you may want to additionally adjust it or save it as a color adjustment preset. You can do so by converting the LUT into Photomator color adjustments.

• Click or tap More next to the LUT pop-up menu and tap Convert into Adjustments.

Export adjustments as LUT

If you have a set of color adjustments you'd like to use in apps other than Photomator, you can export them as LUTs.

• Click or tap More next to the LUT pop-up menu and click or tap Export as LUT.

Manage your custom LUTs

LUTs are managed outside Photomator, in a dedicated "Custom LUTs" folder on your device. Here, you can add and name folders to create new LUT collections that will appear in Photomator.

• Click or tap the LUT pop-up menu, then tap Reveal in Files on iPhone and iPad, or Reveal in Finder in Photomator on Mac.
