3 years ago I'm impressed with Pixelmator, and with a few more improvements, I can see it replacing Photoshop and Gimp for Mac users. But there is one problem. Why doesn't Pixelmator have magnetic lasso? I got it because I thought the user interface was nice, but I'm very disappointed that it doesn't have magnetic lasso, even Gimp, which I've been using and looks horrible, has magnetic lasso. It's the feature that I've used the most in Gimp. I just hope they add it soon. :?

3 years ago Same here, Photoshop Elements looks terrible and is extremely slow, but it still has many features Pixelmator lacks.

Perhaps Photoshop Elements is so slow because it does have all those features? Bloatware anyone? |

2 years ago I agree with what was stated before: please include a magnetic lasso for easier/better selection.
For years this has made my editing easier - at least I'm so familiar with it that I keep changing back to Photoshop what I'd like to avoid as Pixelmator seems a nicer and way faster program. |

Also agree with the Preview has one. Alway sound like some one wants PS instead of Pixelmator. Why not just ask for a request and leave the bloated one out of it. Pixelmator is NOT the bloated one.and hopefully will have more features with out being so bloated if this is possible. Learn what you have and what you have learn well .

No...... I think many folks simply liked using the magnetic lasso tool so they'd like to see it added to Pixelmator. Thanks |

2 years ago Totally agree, just now I had to install Photoshop Elements cause I needed the magnetic lasso tool to cut out an object from a photo. Doing this by hand takes a lot of time and the magnetic lasso works just fine for most occasions.
I'm thinking about buying PIxelmator cause I really like the program, it performs better than Photoshop but the magnetic lasso is absolutely essential for me. |

2 years ago I agree. This is a much-needed feature. When cropping a background out of a portrait shot (when the magic wand doesn't cut it because the face or hair are the same color as the wall) a magnetic lasso is so much easier than manually/freehand.

Exactly. I hope I don't sound like I'm on a very high horse, but how can something like magnetic lasso be even remotely useful for separating fb/bg? Edges it creates are horrible mess, just like those from magic wand (another tool totally useless for separations but useful in other ways like checking for stray pixels). There are multitude of better and faster solutions: - color range select with fuzziness slider (Photoshop, Pixelmator) - foreground select (GIMP) - loading color channels as selections (PS,GIMP) - pen tool - painting a layer mask with brush (or painting quick mask) - sculpting the selection with lasso tool - any combination of these To me magnetic lasso is uncontrollable version of an already limited tool (lasso). |

1 year ago Agree, maybe magnet lasso isn't precize and professional, but it's quite easy to use so it must be.

1 year ago Add my request to the list. I don't use the magnetic lasso all that often (which is why I didn't realize that PM doesn't have one) but when I do need it, nothing else works even half as well. It's a much needed, much desired addition to a great arsenal.

1 year ago I've run into loads of times in which my human eye can see shapes and faint edges far better than the selection methods can detect. A magnetic lasso, letting ME sketch out the desired shape, would be most helpful.

That is nonsense. Features does not equal bloatware or slowness. When done right, an application can both be feature rich, fast and intuitive. The magnetic lasso functionality is probably just 100 KB of code. Mathematically difficult and very compact code, but still nothing more than good algorithms and one icon on the toolbar. Hardly 'bloatware'. |

6 months ago hevonen (or anyone that knows the answer),
What is: color range select with fuzziness slider (Photoshop, Pixelmator) Is there a tutorial somewhere? hevonen, could you do a tutorial on this? I know how to mask and quick mask, but I'd love to have another, more precise option. I got this answered in the Tutorials section under "color range select with fuzziness slider." You can read the answer there. |
